Naples or Herculaneum

Traveling to Italy and planning a stop in either Naples or Herculaneum around June 26-28th. The goal is to see the ruins but also want to see the Caravaggio in Naples. I have booked hotels in Naples and Herculaneum but can not decide where to stay. The out of the way feel of Herculaneum is attractive but I still want to experience Naples. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Since Ercolano is only about 15-20 minutes from Naples via the Circumvesuviana, I’d stay in Naples. Enjoy not only the treasures of the Capodimonte Museum but visit the Archaeological Museum where the spectacular collection of artifacts recovered from the ruins of Herculaneum and Pompeii are on display. Take the time to do all or part of Rick’s Naples walk and discover this city. Remember that pizza was invented here and that fact is recognized by UNESCO. I think you’ll be disappointed if you elect to stay in Ercolano and miss the vibrancy of Napoli.

Naples will give you a richer experience without compromising a trip to Herculaneum. I would stay there, hands down.
