I will be traveling from Rome to either Naples or Florence with my girls 8yrs old & 4 by train , we will be there for 2 days then flying to Sardinia then back to Rome. Could you tell me what would be more kid friendly, best time wise by train, and what would be more accessible to airport Naples or Florence?Thank you!
Train schedules and journey times on www.trenitalia.com and www.italotreno.it , the sites of the 2 competing companies that run high speed trains between Naples and Florence via Rome.
There is a tramway from Florence station to Florence Airport. In Naples there are only buses.
Have you already figured out what airport flights to Sardinia depart from? Pisa is not far from Florence and you can get there taking a train to Pisa Centrale station and then the People Mover to the airport.
I would't define Naples "kid friendly", but they wouldn't get bored. Not sure it would be the same in Florence, what would an 8 years old do at the Uffizi? Or at the Bargello? In Naples you can visit the underground shelters from WWII, take a ferry to the islands, wonder around the Spanish District, make a trip to a sleeping Volcano, see dead bodies frozen in Time at Pompeii...
Can you recommend what flights would be direct from Naples to Sardinia and the cost per adult.Thank you.
Alghero, Cagliari or Olbia airport? On Skyscanner you can pick one and check the "Add nearby airports" box. Same on Google flights, if I'm not wrong.
RyanAir flights from NAP to Alghero, but... It's RyanAir!
Can you recommend any sandy swimming beaches to visit with children In Sardinia? And also any Hotels that you would suggest mid price on the water with a pool. Thanks again.
There are dozens of beaches all around the island, Sardinia is big.
You could Start Googling la Pelosa Beach in front of the Asinara Island, the closed max security prison turned into a natural reserve.
Florence would be way more kid friendly than Naples. It has more of a small town feel. It's manageable with kiddos (we just got back from Italy with my 15, 12 and 8 year old boys). Both are very easily accessible by train on the Tren Italia Frecciarossa. :) Have fun!
My wife and I spent a few days in Florence and a few days in Naples in June. I would pick Florence for sure. We both don't want to go bak to Naples again. Once was enough.
Time of the year? If winter I'd skip Sardinia.
Florence would be my choice, although I may be biased due to my origins.
The draw back is that there aren't too many flights from Florence to Sardinia, except for 3 weekly pairs (Mon, Thu, Sat) with Vueling to Olbia, but only in July up to early September (booking early a must). All other times you need to go to Pisa or Bologna.
