Traveling with my very energetic 90 yr old dad, whose pace has slowed. Able to walk but less distances and slower. On our last tour, we were always a few paces behind the group. Looking for suggestions for tours that might be good, hotels that might be well located ...We also love to use the public transport that go thru scenic routes and just enjoy the ride. Thanks
Naples is quite hilly, so you'd need to be careful about a walking tour. Basically, if you're walking mostly parallel to the waterfront, you may not encounter too much uphill or downhill walking. If you start heading away from the waterfront, things can get very challenging even for those with full mobility.
I didn't take any tours when I was in Naples earlier this year; I just walked, and walked and walked. What I have occasionally done in other cities is hop on a bus and ride till the end of the line, then return to my starting point. That's a cheap way to sightsee in Naples, because as I recall the local bus tickets cost 1.20 euros each. Unfortunately, I didn't take any such scenic bus rides in Naples, so I can't vouch for any bus route in particular.
There's a Metro station practically right outside the excellent archaeological museum. I definitely saw escalators in Metro stations, but it didn't occur to me to pay attention to whether I ever came up against a flight of stairs.
Many people like to see the Capella Sansevero with the impressive Veiled Christ. It requires a timed entrance ticket, and those can sell out one or more weeks ahead of time.
There are probably worthwhile boat tours operating from Naples--maybe something that goes around Capri? I think taking a boat to one of the islands probably wouldn't be advisable, because there would be too much walking on the island.
We are in Naples three times a year and our major means of getting around other than walking is by taxi.
