NAPLES markets and lesser visited museums

We bought a one way ticket to Naples, traveling Oct 13 and have booked an air BnB for 10 days in the Vomero District, near the top of the three Funiculars. Two questions:

We want to visit street food markets to buy groceries and sometimes eat at the market. Walking to markets in Vomero would be great. Otherwise taking the metro, a funicular, or a bus would be fine to visit more remote markets would work. We don't spend significant time is markets that sell "stuff". Too much stuff in our lives already.

We would like to go to some museums other than the "must see" category. Transportation museums: trains, planes, cars, boats
Natural history museums. Science museums, history of Naples etc. War museums. These will help us understand the development of Naples. (I guess it is inevitable the written guides would be mostly in Italian, but we can deal with that.

Thanks for any suggestions. Jim and Betty Truckee California.

I don't know if it's worth buying in your situation, but the Naples artecard has a good list of included museums which would be a nice starting point. https://www.campaniartecard.it/napoli-3-giorni/

Since you're in the Vomero area, obviously go to the Castel Sant'Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino.

If you take the funicular down to Chiaia, you're a short walk to the Pignatelli Museum which is quite nice. That's also pretty close to the Galleria Borbonica which is worth seeing.

A few other possible things to see that aren't as famous:

  • Ipogeo dei Cristallini
  • Jago Museum
  • MUSA - Museo Universitario delle Scienze e delle Arti
  • Museo Civico Gaetano Filangieri
  • Pio Monte della Misericordia (has a big Caravaggio you might want to see)

Vomero is a wonderful neighborhood with many great walks and restaurants. Check out Villa Floridiama a beautiful park near the western edge of Vomero. It has a ceramics museum.
Near the Medaglie D’0ro metro stop is an open air market with fruits and vegetables as well as stalls and restaurants.
