Naples, Italy

We are planning to be in the Naples-Sorrento area from October 9 to approximately October 16. We are flexible on how long we stay in Naples. We are also planning to stay in Sorrento for a couple of days as well, and can switch things up if necessary. I can't find a 2024 forum on Naples. I'd really appreciate recommendations on hotels. Thank you!

In Naples, we like to stay in the Vomero neighbooc which is on a hill north of the historical districts. It us mire residential and ibpverall quieter. Many goid restaurants. Metro line 1 and several funiculars go there.

The Italy forum is searchable, though I’ve never figured out why the results are organized the way they are and why they are not chronological by date with the most recent ones first. Most likely explanation is that the exact search terms entered dominate the search algorithm.

I did some Naples and related area trip planning earlier this year or late 2023 as part of our April 2024 trip planning. Perhaps some of the answers I received and my Trip Report might be of use to you, though we chose the Cilento Coast rather than the Amalfi, plus Naples and a day trip to Ischia, rather than the islands of Capri or Procida.

Our trip report of our Naples/Cilento travel - and other southern Italy travel that we did - is at https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/southern-italy-30-days-three-ways-to-travel
As the TR says, we were delighted with the Hotel Marulivo in Pisciotta, though that is quite a ways south of the Amalfi.

I hope this reply may be of use. Another resource is the Lonely Planet Guide to Naples, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. 227 pages, not too big to pack, and includes sections on the islands, Salerno and the Cilento. But it won’t help you much with accommodations. The suggested places to stay are limited.

I will be there Nov 26 to Dec 4. I always use booking.com and will stay in Giupy's House. I am 70+, F, solo traveler and generally love to stay in unique/atmospheric/old places. I need a washing machine, nicely decorated, microwave, double bed at least, light filled and above 300sf, close to a metro, 2-3 stories, good to excellent reviews, no advance payment. May sound picky but being there for anywhere from 5-30 days, want a nice place at a good price.

Naples, ahhhhh! Read lots of blogs, have seen lots of videos. Last place I stayed in France in March 2024 was all of above but due to age of apt, floor tilted so a slight sense of drunkenness when walking to the living room, stairs extremely narrow, 3 flights up, shower strange and realized I wanted something more modern in Naples. Naples also had lots of alleys, no lights, not as many places close to the metro or buses and I did not feel as secure as I want to be in being out not late, but in the dark.

So opted for Giupy's House, large apt, new, elevator, close to metro and off a square so lit up. I will have already spent a month in Southern Italy's small atmospheric towns so opted for sense of safety and modernity at Giupy's.
