Naples/Ischia in January?

Hello all! I have a two week window in early January for travel and am considering southern Italy, flying into Naples perhaps. Any tips or recommendations for during that time?

Stick with cities. Ischia will be desolate and largely closed down.

I’d visit Rome and Naples, maybe throw in Florence. The museums are not as busy in January and you’ll need a plan in case of bad weather. When the weather is good it is awesome in winter and there will be may good weather days, but getting two or three days of rain is not uncommon and those make good indoor museum days.

I guess I would figure out what you might want to do with your time. Someplace like the Naples area, the attractions are the Archeological sites and the Museum, then sun and fun. Most of the smaller towns will be in idle mode, ferries to Ischia will still run, but many fewer than high season. There will still be plenty of shops and restaurants open, though in someplace like Sorrento, many of the cookie cutter limoncello and knick-knack shops will likely close some locations (so only 2 on a block instead of 6).

As the previous poster said, larger cities tend to offer more in January, Naples unfortunately is not many peoples pick for a vacation experience.

Naples would be my choice--thousands of years of history to explore there, no seasonal issues. You would not exhaust things to do in two weeks.
If you like quiet and get a nice sunny day, I see no reason to not hop over to Ischia and check it out, but I would not plan a trip around it at that time of year.
