I booked a trip based on the only week we had to go, and flight price - ended up with Naples, arriving October 4 in the morning and departing October 10 in the evening, giving us 6 nights. Family of three (daughter will turn 13 while there). I was thrilled with my idea of three nights in Ischia first, three nights in Naples, and doing all the archeological things the last two days. I have been obsessively watching the weather, which looked like 6 days of 75 and sunny until it changed and now it's saying it's going to rain the entire time. I haven't booked any hotels yet, because I was watching to see which days would be best in which location. I would love to hear your thoughts on how to make the most of my one week of vacation all year in the rainy Mediterranean.
Some of our most humorous and memorable experiences have involved rain, but I am sorry because I know how it feels to have weather impact a trip. Second, take heart--the forecast could be wrong and it may not rain that much! Third, Naples is a wonderful place to be in rain because there is a lot to see. That is why I often suggest staying there in "iffy" weather seasons.
I don't know Ischia, but perhaps some of the hot springs are enclosed?
I'd almost rather tour Pompeii in rain that 90 degree weather, so you may have lucked out there.
This site may offer some things to do in Naples: https://www.napoliunplugged.com/
good luck!
The weather report will likely change many times between now and October 4. Pack umbrellas and light raincoats and plan to dance in the rain - you'll be in Italy after all!
I am in Naples now. Rain has been predicted since we got her several days ago. It has been beautiful in the 70s. Think it will rain tonight, but it is supposed to clear by morning. In the past, even when it rains, it doesn’t last too long.
Thanks all - these positive comments make me feel better! So now.....2 nights in Ischia and 4 in Naples, or 3 and 3? Tough call!
