We're on a cruise in November in the Med. One of the stops is Naples. Anyone have any suggestions for a one day tour--not too expensive? Can we bus to Sorrento and also go to Capri in one day--or is there something else we shouldn't miss?
And get back to the ship ontime? What time off the ship and what time do you have to be back? There are jet boats from Naples to Sorrento and from Sorrento to/from Capri but I'd think twice about it especially since the ferries are limited and they are further limited in the off season.
Sorrento and Capri will be difficult. But if you do not want to stay in Napoli I would suggest taking the short ferry ride to the island of Procida. You won't find many tourists, if any there. We spent a week on the island, but in a day you can explore the main town and have a great meal.
Hi Jerry
We just returned from the a Med. cruise. We did most of the ports on our own but in Naples we hired a private guide who took us to Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast & Ravello. It was about 10 hours but really worth the sights - Amalfi was spectacular! The guide was Mariano Fiorentino - website [email protected]. He was the least expensive of all of the guides that I checked in the area.
From the cruise, many people took the ferry from Naples to Capri for the day. There is a map in Rick Steves Italy book which shows you all of the ferries that run from those towns in southern Italy. We went in July so the ferries were running on a regular basis. Enjoy your trip - I wish we had our cruise ahead of us instead of behind us!
