Naples Hotel--Best location?

We four Americans will be in Naples in early November for two nights --- looking for the right location/area to book a hotel. We plan to fly in from Catania and visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale that afternoon/evening --- so hopefully a short walk or short subway ride and the next day to take the Circumvesuviana to Scavi to spend all or most of that day at Pompeii. The next am we are renting a car---likely at Naples airport---and then head north. So, requirements are close to the museo and near a subway that will get us to Centrale easily. Suggestions, please, on what neighborhood(s) might satisfy those requirements.

From my own experience, I stayed at a hotel very near the Centrale station so I could take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii. And, also, take a train after my 2 days to Rome.
I took a taxi to the Archeological Museum and other sights like the Chapel to see the amazing Veiled Christ sculpture. It made more sense to me to stay near the train station. I don't remember that there was a subway line to the Museum. Maybe there is and someone else can speak to that.
I also saw the Capodimonte Art Museum high up on the hill, fabulous art! If you are an art lover, you don't want to miss it. Caravaggios and many other greats.

Look at Hotel Piazza Bellini. 5 minute walk from the Archeological Museum and the Museo metro stop.

You might also have a look at Chiaja Hotel in Naples. It's in a wonderful area and from what I remember it's not too far from the Archeological Museum (maybe a 20-25 minute walk or you could take a taxi).

If you decide to stay there, be sure to pay a visit to the Gran Caffè Gambrinus for a coffee & pastries, Limoncello or whatever.

We just stayed at Hotel Piazza Bellini. Rooms were quite nice, modern, and clean. The downstairs lobby and breakfast area was nice for relaxing in the morning. Short walk, taxi, or metro ride from train station or Museum.

Perhaps you should look into the "Artecard Campania 3 days" , it's a 3-day public transport card with includes all metro lines, buses and even the Circumvesuviana train to Pompei. Entrance fees to the archeological museum in Naples and the fees for Pompei are included in this Artecard. We used it while in Naples this year and found it a real bargain. You can buy the Artecard in het Hudson News kiosk at the Central Station in Naples. It costs 32 euro. If you plan to take the metro a lot and visit some museums, it may be worth it. The archeological museum and Pompei have separate ticket windows for Artecard holders, so no line either !
We also used the card to travel on Metroline 2 to Pozzuoli, the seaside town where Sophia Loren grew up. The train runs every 20 minutes.
