I'm in Rome now and planning to spend a long weekend in Naples (I don't have fear of Naples :-)) In any case, it will be my first time in Naples, and I'm looking for a nice but economic (if that's possible) hotel. I might be going solo or with a friend. I read the suggestion about a place near the train station from a previous post...I usually try to stay away from the train station, so I'm looking for other suggestions.

You might have a look at Hotel Chiaia. It's a beautiful Hotel, located in the same building as an Embassy and the staff are great. It's not close to the train station, but in a really nice area. The station is easily accessible by Taxi, so not a problem.
