Does anyone know if the Garbage strike issues have been resolved? I saw a snippit of it on the news and it looked like trouble was errupting. I didn't catch it all but I think I heard there were allegations of connections to the Maffia?
I'm just wondering if and how this might affect travellers to the Naples area? Has anyone heard or been there recently?

There were a couple of posters recently from Naples that did indicate that the Maffia was involved. Not sure if it's been cleared up yet.

I won't go into detail really...but the "Camorra" has been controling the garbage situation for many, years.
There has been a lot of news coverage lately (I beliebe even the NYtimes - and I know it wasa on BBCWorld last night...the protests in Sardenia where they were bringing some of the trash) and I'm sure you can read the whole nasty story with a google search.
Unfortunately, parts of Naples are certainly effected this time and there do seem to be piles of garbage :-( hopefully, things will get better soon!
That said, I do want to say that the toursit areas (Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, etc.) have been kept out of it. I, also, have not seen any problems out in the Avellino countryside. I'm not over there right now though, so I'm sure someone else will chime in who has seen it first-hand this time.
