Naples for 10 hours

Hi. A friend and I are taking a cruise snd will be in Naples from 7-7 and are the only ship in port that day. I am trying to figure out what we can do. We would like to take the Hydrofoil from Naples to Sorrento and then the train to either Pompeii or Herculaneum and then back to Naples. Is it feasible to see one of the ruins as well as Naples and Sorrento? I am not a huge ruin fan but my friend is.

Sorrento isn't worth it for me. The coastal scenery is quite beautiful, but otherwise there isn't that much in town.
A combination of Naples and Herculaneum (preferred option if you're not a ruin fan!) would be great, in my opinion.

What time of year? If summer time, I would do the 'ruins' first ( avoid the heat of the day) and take the hydrofoil back at the end of the day.
