Hello i will be taking a night train from Munich to Rome in April and I am wondering if i should go straight to Naples on regional trains after arriving in Rome for the 3 nights and then comoing back to Rome for the remaining 4 nights before flying out. Or do i stay in Rome 3 nights then Naples 3 nights back to Rome for 1 night before flying out?
You can take the fast train to Napoli Centrale from Roma Termini, 1.25 hours. I like to get to my furthest city right away and not have an additional check-in/out at the end of a trip.
I agree with Zoe.
You should go straight down to Naples first, then come back up to Rome for your last nights before flying home.
The reason is that by doing so, you save yourself an extra hotel change, which are time wasters.
Although there are regional trains from Rome to Naples, however it is much faster (albeit more expensive) to take a Freccia high speed train. 70 minutes and you are at Napoli Centrale. There are numerous a day (at least one per hour).
Check into this fast train availability as soon as possible, you'd be surprised how many people in and around Napoli work in Rome! Plus other travelers, students, soldiers, locals visiting family and friends, so if you're needing reservations on a fast train, there may be none available!
This forum has heard too many times about my infamous seven hour trip on a Regionale from Napoli to Roma, changed at Cassino, many of us had to stand in the car foyer, it was that crowded with travelers and students, luggage everywhere in the aisles.
I had sauntered into the train station at Noon on a Sunday, wanting to reserve a fast train, only thing available was a "Special" train at 5 PM. My lower back felt every lurch, by the time I got to Rome at Midnight I couldn't walk, and the train had a staggered stop, giving us a one mile walk to the station!
