Naples Centrale v Naples Garibaldi Train Stations - How to get between?

I have train tickets from Rome airport to Naples Centrale. I need to get to Sorrento. I need to understand the difference between Naples Centrale and Naples Garibaldi Stations. As the trains to Sorrento all seem to all leave from Garibaldi. I googled, and it said they are in the same station, one is the lower station. But then something else said I need to take a train to get from Centrale to Garibaldi, for 1e each. If this is true, do i buy a ticket to get from Centrale to Garibaldi. Then at Garibaldi, buy a ticket to get to Sorrento?

I need help understanding how the logistics of this work. It seems if they are the same station, you just walk downstairs. Or are they not the same station?

The Circumvesuviana is an independently managed transit authority, not really part of your Trenitalia ticket. They run several commuter lines (tending towards older, stuffy, hot "subway" cars, with no serious luggage racks) in the area. One line, that you want, ends at Sorrento. If you are in Naples Centrale (a fairly modern train station), you go to the main, street-level concourse to find a dual escalator to and from the lower level of the building.

At the bottom of the escalator, you have a long level walk to the right, on marble tiles, to get to the ticket sale window, and the trains, to Sorrento. If you walk the same long distance to the left down there, you come to the paid public toilets.

In Sorrento, you buy these tickets from the newsdealer just outside the station. Very few Circumvesuviana stations are "staffed." BTW, there is an elevator to the street level, in the Sorrento station, if you need it. Circumvesuviana tickets are priced in distance tiers, so the train to Pompeii, say, from Sorrento might be a little less than a ticket back to Naples.

something else said I need to take a train to get from Centrale to Garibaldi,

Something else is wrong. We did this a few months ago. Get off the train from Rome, go downstairs. You'll see signs that say "Circumvesuviana". Keep walking along the underground corridor. "Finally just before you hit the stairs at the far end back up to street level you'll see the ticket office on the right. Buy tickets, the entry for the train is across from the ticket booth.
