Naples Buses Metro

We are thinking about our transportation within Naples in September. Considering buses, metro and taxis. Do you have any comments on: 1. Feeling of safety (day time only)? 2. Run on time and how often?
3. Cost of taxis. Thanks!

Took the Circumvesuviana local train and had no problems - just watch your stuff when it's crowded and try to travel off-peak (unless you like crowds). You didn't mention them, but the (hydrofoil) ferries are also easy to use if you need to get to some of the islands.

We were in Sorrento for 3 nights and Naples for 3 nights. We used the Circumvesuviana between Naples and Sorrento. In Naples we used the metro and the funicular. We were in our mid-late 60s and felt safe, always being aware of our surroundings and with my hands on my purse and the strap, as most European women hold their purses, and as we would travel in any large city. Don't remember the schedules but seem to remember that they were on time. We stayed near Stazione Centrale and didn't venture out much after dark as our hotel served dinner.
