naples archaeological museum

What's up with this museum??? My husband and I arrived in Sorrento Wednesday (weather has been fabulous the entire time, warm and no rain) and headed to Naples yest, Sunday, to see the sights. Of course the arch. Museum was on our list as husband had not been yet. I know it is closed Tues but On the board out front it listed closures and at least 75% of the exhibits were closed! What gives?? I was just there this past July on a trip with my sisters and were ticked because room with Pompeii mosaics and dancing faun were closed as they were short staffed But to have 75% closed on a day they are "open" is ridiculous! skipped the museum and Made the best of it and saw other sights and had napoli pizza. I know its Italy but makes you kind Of mad!

Welcome to Italy! (Banging head against hard object in sympathy) Eons ago, the Ostia Antica museum was unexpectedly closed during our visit; of course, no one knew why (sigh). Most of the 'good stuff' (and lunch!) was INSIDE the museum...grrrr... The Naples museum is such a must-see, so this is really frustrating. This is why I drink all the wine I can get my hands on - both proactively and reactively - while in Italy ;-) I have no good excuse for the rest of my wine-drinking... Are you still in Italy? If so, it still beats being home - enjoy! :-)

Who knows? We were just there on Oct 18th, Friday, and everything was open. Monday has been the tradition day for closures but have read that budget problems are causing some place to also close or have restricted hours on Sunday.

Whenever we encountered something frustrating, not functioning, or just didn't make sense... We'd smile and say ruefully, "T.I.I." --- "This is Italy!"
