Naples Arch museum

We will be traveling from Florence to Naples and want to see the Archeological museum in the afternoon before heading to Pompeii in evening. Since we'll be arriving by train, planning to check our luggage at the station---then what would be the best and safest way to get to the museum from the train station--this is for 4 adults.
Thank you
Fredrica

We found it to be a longish walk so if we go there again, we'll take a taxi from the train station.

If we do walk, are the streets between the train station and museum safe, assuming we're "on the watch"---are directions there easy to find?

When are you going? We took the metro from the train station to a stop just across the street from the museum, as described in Rick's book. We were there in mid April, so there were no big crowds which could explain why we felt perfectly safe in the metro station. If I recall correctly, we did a lot of walking underground getting from our metro stop to the stairs leading above ground across from the museum (I think it was the above ground entrance for a different metro line). It was pouring rain, which is why we chose not to walk...and we opted to save money rather than take a cab.

You can leave your luggage at the baggage storage facilities, no lockers at the station just follow the luggage sign. We also took the metro to the museum and felt safe, just follow Rick's directions, and Patricia describes it well, make sure you are not visiting on a Tuesday, the museum is closed, i made that mistake myself! We walked most of the way back, we felt safe at all times!

I forgot about the metro option, that would also be good way to go. We walked it when we were there as we decided to stop at Da Michele on the way and we never felt unsafe in any way and I was carrying my DSL with us.

Regardless of how you reach the museum, call ahead
and find out what's been closed off for that day.
We had only one opportunity to visit prior to flying
out of Naples: La Collezione dei Mosaici and il Gabinetto segretoentire were shut down for restoration work.

We visited Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ostia and were primed
to see all the treasures on display in the Naples museum. The bookstore was the closest we got.

And be forewarned - they don't always have the AC running at the museum. We were there in September and it was very, very warm. They just open the windows.
