My husband and I are traveling with kids. We'd like to see Positano et al, Capri & Pompeii... I was wondering if we should use Naples as our base the entire time or maybe spend 1 or two nights in Positano/Amalfi. We are definitely staying 1 night in Naples on our last night, but we have two more nights to plan. Please advise oh wise ones!

Sorrento give you easier access to Capri and Pompeii than Positano or elsewhere on the AC
Have been to the Amalfi Coast a number of times and we have always stayed in Sorrento as it is easier to get to than Positano and has good bus/boat connections to Pompeii, Capri, Positano and Amalfi town. We like to take the boat from Sorrento to either Positano or Amalfi town (from Amalfi t. you can take a bus up to Ravello for spectacular views) and the bus back. Or vice versa. We have visited Naples several times to see the sights but have only stayed here once and only for 1 night--last October we had a 6:30 a.m. flight out of Naples to Paris. Also, depending on the time of year you are visiting, the Campania Express runs between Naples and Sorrento in about 50 min. with 2 stops. Was done for the season when we were here last Oct.
