Hello, I will be in the Naples/AC area in early May for a couple of days. I have reserved a hotel in Positano, our plane lands at Naples Airport at 950am. I heard about a bus that i can take to Sorrento from the airport but the next bus is at 11am. Me and my buddy are light packers so just a carry on backpack for us, so do we wait an hour for that bus? Or do we venture off to Naples Central Train station from the airport to get on the Circumversuviana to Sorrento then bus to Positano?
You could do that - you'll want to take an airport bus to Garibaldi to get the train - but the shuttle bus to Sorrento going to be a lot more comfortable.
Ditto to what Kathy said.
I don't imagine you'd get to Sorrento any earlier by leaving the airport and going to the train station and taking the Circumvesuviana. You might, but I doubt it. Save yourself the hassle, you already have to get another bus when you get to Sorrento.
It's up to you. However you won't get to Sorrento much sooner.
The bus departs at 11 from the airport and comfortably gets you to the Sorrento Train Station at 12:15. No dealing with luggage (goes under the bus belly), no transfering to other modes of transport, and no pickpockets on board.
The Circumvesuviana that would get you there sooner depart from the Garibaldi station at :
10:11 (arrives Sorrento at 11:17)
10:41 (arrives Sorrento at 11:47)
There is no way you can make the 10:11 train, because the station is at least 20 min from the airport by Alibus and 15 min by taxi.
There is another Alibus shuttle which departs at 10:20, which could get you to the station on time for the 10:41 train (tight however) or you could take a taxi, which shouldn't take more than 15 min. So in the best of circumstances you can save 28 minutes by trying the train, but if you can't make the 10:41 train for whatever reason, then the next one departs at 11:11 which gets you to Sorrento 2 minutes after the bus. Also the train options requires transfers of modes of transport (from bus/taxi to train), requires lugging your bags on board the train.
We give you the fair and balanced information. You decide. This is like FoxNews.
sounds good, have any of you heard of a boat or ferry that can go from Positano to Sorrento? Were heading to Pompeii the next morning from Positano and Im looking for an alternative route if its not too expensive and too time consuming
Sorrento-Positano-Amalfi boat service is available only in summer, generally starting from the latter part of May.
From Positano to Pompeii the best option is the bus+Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento (or Meta)
I did see some information that at least some ferry service starts earlier in the season, around Easter and/or mid-April. The problem with depending on the ferries is that service to Positano will be suspended if the seas are rough. There's year-round ferry service from Naples to Sorrento, so if you can and want to take the ferry, it could be better to ferry from Naples to Sorrento and then change to Positano, than to have to go from the train/bus station down to the ferry in Sorrento.
How many nights are you planning to be on the AC? If you're only going for 2-3 nights, and you want to visit Pompeii, why not stay in Sorrento? You can then take the bus to Positano and return by ferry for a day trip, and easily visit Pompeii using the the Circumvesuviana train on another day.
Well im wanted to goto Positano and i figured instead of backtracking to Sorrento after the visit just spend the night and back track to Pompeii the next morning. I did get a pretty decent price for a hotel though.
Going to Pompeii from Positano is not a problem. Actually if you are in Positano that is what I would do. I like Positano better.
Just catch the bus going toward Sorrento, then the Circumvesuviana train. You can catch the train in Sorrento or Meta depending on which bus you catch. Some go to Sant'Agnello.
