Hello,
We are staying at a hotel in modern Pompei. Could somebody please tell me if we are able to catch a train from the Naples airport to Pompei Scavi? Or would we have to take a train from the airport to Naples then to Pompei Scavi?

No train at NAP airport.
You can take a shuttle bus to the Central train station, then from there a Circumvesuviana commuter train to Pompeii. Since you probably have luggage with you, I suggest you bite the bullet and take a taxi. It's not that distant and won't be that expensive. Just make sure you don't get one of those illegal unlicensed taxi drivers. Just go to the proper taxi stand at the airport.
