Naples airport to Herculaneum to Rome one Day itinerary

HI kind folks
Need some help with an itinerary for one day in the area.
Flying in from Palermo at 9:30am. (luggage minimal: 2 cabin roller bags and 2 large backpacks) On Tuesday Oct 28.
I want to plan for a visit for 2 people to Herculaneum and possibly Vesuvius, then back to train station for a train trip to Rome. (hopefully arrive Rome no later than 20:00/21:00..
Note: My sister has never been to any of these ruins and I didn't want to give up the chance for her to sample, so we can come back one day for more exploration.! Yes I know Im really I'm being rushed and ambitious!

I thought about taking a prepaid or taxi to Herculaneum to save on time (about 80E?). by best guess is the earliest I could arrive in Herculaneum is about 11:00. At the back end, we would then take local train back to Naples train station to depart for Rome.

I understand there is also a bus to Vesuvius leaving every hour from Ercolano. (this is seems about 2 hours total time)
For luggage storage I see we can walk to the H park entrance and store at the site, or I also read that the Vesuvius bus has a paid storage facility at/near the Ecolono station. Can someone please confirm?.

*I'd be willing to investigate/pay for a tour that picked up from airport, did H and V and returned us to train station in Ecolono or Naples. if someone could recommend one. Guided even better.

If you could recommend a feasible itinerary for the day including at least one quick/easy food stop, (even if it's a pizza to go before we get on the train to Rome! (hate to miss a Napoli pizza :)

Please include transportation options, considering luggage too. Appreciate you all .
thank you
(of course all this hinges on my plane actually being on time too!)

I think your best option is a private tour. Given your limited time, consider visiting Oplontis and Stabiae instead of Herculaneum - much smaller and less crowded, and worthy of your attention.

We used Askos in 2022 for 3 days of private tours. Highly recommend them.

Oh I was not familiar with those sites.. Compared to my trip to Pompeii I figured Herculaneum was the smaller option that we could do in 2-3 hours.
I will look at a private tour but afraid that $400+ is not in the budget. I could probably swing the taxi from airport to archeological site which will say a lot of time. I'm familiar with the local train back to Naples.
I guess I'm asking for advice on timing, as well as luggage storage.
I have considered renting a car from airport and return to Train station in Rome. I could do this but not my first choice.
sees from the time I land to the time I need to depart for Rome is about 8-9hours total.

Unfortunately, Oplontis and Stabiae are closed on Tuesday! But I would still go with Askox.

Sorry, I should have paid more attention when I read your post.
