Naples Airport to Circumvesuviana

Since you all were so helpful with my hotel issue, I have another question for you. I fly into Naples and then need to get on the train to Sorrento. Is this easily done? Do I need to take a taxi? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am traveling in Mid-November, which I think will make a difference in how I get there.

You can bus it to Circumvesuviana train station or to Sorrento easily but
do not forget one of the best italian archaeological museums for antiquities is in Naples. Consider also taking the 40 min ferry to Sorrento instead from Naples port area called Beverello Port as an option.
the Naples airport website gives all te detail bus info.

Tippy, We went Naples Airporto, Circumvesuviana Train, to Sorrento about 3 weeks ago. Had planed on taking the Curreri Bus strait to Sorrento but bus was full with a busload waiting an hour and a half for next bus (transportation situation at the airport is confusing and unorganized). We ended up taking the orange Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi then Circumvesuviana to Sorrento. Naples area is a little rough forcing tourist to travel together. I found myself the leader of a small band of Americans driving wheeled luggage thru the streets of Naples armed only with streetwise grin and information that I learned from the Rick Steves 2007 Italy Guidebook. A good alternative to all that might have been Taxi to the Palazzo Reale Docks in Naples, boat to Sorrento then taxi from Docks at Sorrento to your hotel. We've rode public transportation in London, Paris, Rome, Milan, and Philly. The Circumvesuviana is about as bad as it gets. Grafitti everywhere, crowded, dirty....a traveller's nightmare.

We arrived in Naples late, around 6:oo PM on Saturday 23 September after a long and, needless to say, adventuresome train trip from Viareggio. We had planned to take the Circumvesuvian to Sorrento, where we were booked in Hotel Desiree. Taking a taxi, although it was 100 Euro, was probably the best decision we made the entire three-week trip! Traffic was literally bumper to bumper from most of the trip, so we feel we got a bargain in the taxi. Sorrento is the very last stop of many, maybe twenty or more, from Naples with Sorrento being the very last. Further, you will likely be toting bags for which there is little provision on this train except to stand with them for security in the "vestibule" of one of the train cars. I agree with a previous poster and with Rick Steves that this train, and especially that time of night would be frightening at best. We did take it during the day to Pompeii with no problems.
