Naples airport hotel recommendations

We are a middle aged+ couple flying into Naples soon, arriving at 7pm. We don't want to spend a lot just in transportation to a hotel, so would like to find a decent one near the airport. Tripadvisor has been no help. Are there any decent, safe hotels, or should we just go into city center? We'll be moving to a hotel in Sorrento the next day.

This is not a large airport. Naples has fixed rate airport taxi rates, and I wonder if it's 25 Euros for one mile as well as to downtown. It is true that Naples has a widespread problem with drivers (for example) trying to collect bag charges that are prohibited by the fixed rate sheet. You should download and print out that sheet, even though it is in Italian. This problem is not unique to southern Italy!

We had the same arrival time problem on our way to Sorrento, but we were glad to wake up downtown in the morning and store our bags at the hotel after checking out. We returned for the bags and walked some distance to the Circumvesuviana, looking at things on that walk too.

Are you afraid to be in Naples, or just saving money? We settled for a light dinner at the hotel, because we don't know Naples enough to go out at night. That may have been too conservative. But we enjoyed our independent walking the next day, the Archaeology Museum, and pizza lunch. It would be a shame to miss out on Naples.

I don't recommend the Circumvesuviana for people who have never used public transit, or who are afraid of Naples. (I'm using that word descriptively, not criticizing anyone.) How are you getting to Sorrento?

Edit: I've never studied Italian, but just as my French teacher promised, any Romance language gives you some rudimentary skills in the others. For your further research, I turned up this link by changing the first word (only) in this Google Search from the English spelling: "Napoli fixed rate taxi".

Yes, I see that this sheet is dated 2017. But this is southern Italy. At least it's something to go on. Wait till you try to download a ferry schedule!

The airport is so close to the center, I’d stay in center

I’ve seen hotels in the waterfront /ferry area mentioned
You can take the ferry to Sorrento in the am

Have you looked on booking.com?

city center--it is only a 15 minute taxi to airport (have hotel book it, and ask for the rate).
