What are the safest neighborhoods to stay in in Naples?
Is the area near the Naples Museum, historic center good?
Not looking for high priced luxury, just midrange comfortable & clean.
Any recommendations ?
Thank you
Hi Alice, Bed and Breakfast Orsini 46 comes HIGHLY recommended, scoring a 4.9 on Booking.com. Located in the Santa Lucia neighborhood which is VERY safe, attractive and reasonably positioned to see the sites of Naples. It is a slight (15 minutes) walk to the Metro (subway) Municipio stop and from here you can go anywhere. You are also located less than a half block from the Bay of Naples and the Lungomare (kind of a seaside boardwalk). This is also where you could catch a ferry to Capri, or Ischia for example. But what I particularly like about this location and Orsini 46 specifically is that it is quiet. Quiet can be very hard to come by in Naples as it is a joyful and boisterous city. Also, you would be very near the Chiaia neighborhood which is a calmer, upscale section of Naples. Don't get me wrong I LOVE walking in the heart of the historic district or up by the Archaeological Museum but when I want guaranteed sleep I look elsewhere. If you do end up staying more in the thick of it I would recommend asking for an interior or courtyard room as this will make for a more peaceful night.
We just got back from Italy and did a day trip to Naples and I was shocked by the amount of graffiti everywhere! It looked like the South Bronx if the Bronx had been Naples-wealthy a few hundred years ago. Nowhere else in Italy looked like that - maybe Rome cleaned all of theirs up for the Jubilee? We found nice upscale restaurants and shops around the museum, so I’m sure there are nice areas, but be prepared for the appearance!
This hotel is often recommended by others here and is in a great location. We stayed there in 2023.

We opted for the economy room category because that was all that was available. It was a bit dorm-room like, but comfortable and clean. I think their higher categories are probably pretty nice. They had a very nice breakfast and a lovely courtyard that was a nice respite from the craziness of Naples. My husband is a tea drinker and they were always great about getting him hot water, even when the restaurant was not open. We were there on Easter Sunday and they left a chocolate egg in our room that was made by a local chocolatier. Would definitely stay there again.
From the biggest city to the smallest village, I have never not seen graffiti in Italy. I don't love it, but it is in no way an indication of anything about a neighborhood.
I loved Hotel Piazza Bellini--we had a room with a terrace and were treated to an impromptu fireworks display. Naples at its crazy best!
