Naples

Hi all,
We are 4 seniors who will be visiting Southern Italy in September. Planning to spend one day in Naples. Wondering if you have found Rick's walking tour to be enough or if we should book a walking tour with one of his recommended companies? Basically, should we do our own thing in Naples or best to hire a guide? Thanks!

I think you should do whatever your group feels comfortable with. Some people like to explore on their own at their own pace, while others want to be told what to look at. As always, Roberto is right - do some research in advance.

Thanks so much everyone, I think we will hop on the train and explore on our own. Appreciate your taking the time to reply. Ciao!

hey hey prem
hoping not to late for other options. we spent a day in naples years back. it was one of our fun day trips even though many people bypass it. yes it was gritty, dirty, garbage around, it's known for that. we walked backstreet alleys for shopping and looking, eating pizza, nice people, talking with our hands and laughing, sitting in a piazza cafe with a glass of wine and appetizers people watching, families enjoying, taking a bus along the coast and seeing the beauty surrounding us. thinking now, wish we had taken a tour with guide to know all we were seeing and missing

I liked the RS walking tour. It starts across the street from the National Archaeology Museum which is a wow, so consider spending a couple hours there first. The tour goes past a number of interesting sights. If you allow time to visit some of them, plus lunch, you will fill the day. As someone who likes to go at her own pace, I would not book a guided tour, but it may be add a lot to the day if you hired a private guide, which should be affordable for a group of 4.
