Hi!,
Hubby and I are planning for 3 nights in Naples before we head to Ravello for a family wedding.
Would like ideas and thoughts for best location/area of Naples to stay in?
Recommendations for hotels?
Top 5 must do's in Napoli?
Would love some input and experienced advice -
Grazie!
Top thing to do is to go to Pompeii and then the Museo Archeologico in Naples to see the items from Pompeii.
The Cappella Sansevero in Naples has incredible Baroque sculpture. Have read that you really need to reserve in advance.
Naples is awesome! I wholeheartedly agree with Bob's recommendations, and I would add the Cappella Sansevero; book advance tickets to avoid the lines. I highly recommend Culinary Backstreets' food tour. You will walk a lot and eat even more. If you like live music, you could attend a performance at the Teatro di San Carlo. I sat in the nosebleed section for Marina Abramovic's Seven Deaths of Maria Callas and had a great time people watching--Neapolitans love their operas.
I stayed at Hotel Piazza Bellini and liked it a lot. The piazza has a noisy drinking scene on the weekends, fueled no doubt by 1 euro Aperol spritzes, so if you like quiet, ask for a room that faces indoors. The hotel is an easy walk to the MANN. Buon viaggio!
Wife and I spent three nights in Naples in January , also at the Piazza Bellini and we also liked it. (It is an old palazzo, with an interior courtyard so when the previous poster refers to a “room that faces indoors” I assume they mean facing the courtyard.) The Cappella Sansevero is indeed very popular, and has timed entry every 15 (or maybe it was 30) minutes. They were sold out the first day we went, but we were able to buy tickets for the next afternoon at the box office across from the entrance. We spent more than four hours in the Archeological Museum, which is at least twice my normal tolerance for wandering around in a museum. It’s that good. I would add to the list a visit to Castel Sant’Elmo. It’s a monumental fortress, fun to wander through and offering outstanding views over the entire area. No interior rooms to see, but the structure is magnificent. We also enjoyed a walk along the seaside lungomare, and just strolling the streets of the old city. And yes, the pizza is on another level!
Month of year? Air conditioning is important. Don't overlook the Farnese Marbles in the Archaeology Museum. Expect a long wait for seats at a famous pizzeria.

Note that Ravello is a journey from Naples. You can't wake up in Ravello and fly home from Rome the same day.
We had a wonderful stay in Naples at Palazzo Alabardieri in the Chiaia district near the waterfront. It was a quiet and safe location with good dining nearby.
thank you for the great recommendations re things to do/see and where to stay in Naples!
We will be there at the end of May, if any other thoughts or experiences come to mind please send them on...:)
There's so much to do in Naples--we've made several trips to the city and haven't covered all we want to see.
In addition to the sights listed above, consider the Santa Chiara complex, the Duomo, Museo Capodimonte, if you like Caravaggio there's the stunning Misericordia, Naples Underground (there a few different sights, we only visited one), heading up to Vomero for the fantastic views and to see Certosa and San Martino.
There's much, much more to see, but I suppose I would want to spend time up high for views--Vomero or Capodimonte, time on the lungomare, and plenty of time for the historic center (including a visit to MANN).
Excellent pizza and pastries in Naples. And it's a terrific street food city.
