Hi We want to do a daytrip: First with the Circumvesuviana From Napels, climbing off in Pompei and then onto Sorrento. Then from Sorrento to Amalphi Coast with a bus and somehow back to Naples. Q: Would you suggest going from Sorrento all the way to Salerno with bus and then with train back to Naples? Or rather not going all the way to Salerno and taking another route back to Naples?
Any other suggestions on this daytrip idea?

What time of year? This is a significant factor because the ferries, which are a wonderful means of travel in the area, do not operate year round on the same schedules and routes. I ferry-hopped all over the area from Naples. But, those were Summer trips when the ferries covered the water like geese. I just showed up at the dock and got on. All that I knew was that the boat was not a giant ship bound for Palermo. I bounced around Procida, Ischia, Capri, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, using nothing but the schedules posted at the dock and without having a clue what most of these places were. My only red-line was that I needed a boat back to Naples. Not a problem. It was great fun. The ferry is useless for Pompeii. The CV stops right there and, on the way from Naples, you will see some pretty cool street art on some not so cool housing projects.
