Name of train station closest to Cinque Terre

I will be going from Florence to La Spezia in order to spend a day in CT. When i was trying to book a train, it asked me which station: La Spezia Centrale, La Spezia Main Station or La Spezia Migliarina. Which one would it be in order to be close to start visiting Cinque Terre?

The Cinque Terre is composed of 5 towns, each of which has its own train station. Pick the town you want to start visiting in, go to that train station.

lise,

As the others have indicated, La Spezia Centrale is the station where you'll transfer to the smaller "local" C.T. train. One thing to note is that not all of the trains will stop at each of the five villages. Check the schedule board when you arrive at La Spezia.

If your first stop is Riomaggiore, the ride is only about eight minutes. If the train stops (even in a tunnel) and eight minutes has elapsed, it's time to quickly get off! To reach the "main part" of Riomaggiore, you need to go past the main station building through a tunnel that parallels the tracks and then turn left. The village starts as soon as you exit the tunnel.

If you're stopping in Corniglia, the village is up on a cliff, so you'll either have to hike up LOTS of stairs or take the small shuttle bus. The other locations are relatively easy.

Note that if you're hiking the trails, you'll need a Park Pass, which you can buy at stations (DON'T forget to validate!). They DO check for passes!

Happy travels!

From Florence, there are no direct trains to the CT. You will change trains in either Pisa, La Spezia or both depending on the run. Not a problem. La Spezia Centrale is the gateway station to the CT. Just look at the TV monitor to see the train schedules. La Spezia Centrale is a good-sized train station. There is also a TI at the station.

As mentioned by Ken above, all trains into the CT do not necessarily stop at all 5 towns. All stop at Riomaggiore and Monterosso but fewer stop at Vernazza and even fewer stop at Manarola and Corniglia.

You can get a great train schedule for all runs into and out of the CT in the TI office. It covers all runs from La Spezia in the South to Levanto in the North. Then, you can see which train you need to catch. It's really easy stuff.

Paul, you can go to via Michelin.com and look at a map of la Spezia which will show the train station as well as the surrounding streets. You can type in the name of the streets near the station if you're unable to get the actual address.

Paul, go to www.viamichelin.com and simply enter Italy and La Spezia and you'll get a map. Zoom in and you'll see a train icon near Via Fiume.
