I am trying to find the marble sculpture featuring a body covered with some kind of netting or rope. I am going to Italy and would like to see it. Thanks
That's kind of difficult without more specifics. There is a statue in the Museum of the San Severo Chapel in Naples that is called "Il Disinganno", by Francesco Queirolo. It shows a man entangled in a sort of fishnet. I don't know if that is what you meant. Google the author and name above and see if you recognize it. If that's what you mean, it's in Naples.
The sculpture Roberto is referring to is also known as the Veiled Christ. It's in San Severino Chapel in Naples and depicts Christ covered by a veil (not netting or rope), which allows the image to show through the veil in great detail. Google images of "Veiled Christ San Severino" to see if this is the one you are looking for.
A quick Google search confirms that Roberto knows what he's talking about and it's not the more famous Veiled Christ. And the Chapel is named Sansevero, not San Severino.
Oops, thanks, Michael.
Roberto, you are a wonderful new addition to this already good blog........you just make it better with your knowledge! Keep posting!
Do you know anything about Valencia, Spain? I posted a question under "To the West" and have had no replies!
