Hello,
Please help me solve the mystery of the CT church bells. Half of my responses indicate that the church bells in the 5 towns stop ringing at 11pm and start again at 7am/7:30am. The other 50% indicate that the bells ring every hour throughout the night, even after 11pm and all night long.

I've never heard any church bells in Monterosso in the middle of the nght. My room often faces the front so I'm sure I would hear them.
Thank you for your reply! It is a very confusing topic, one I am getting conflicting answers about. I have communicated with many different hosts--one in Monterossa and 3 in Corniglia. Of these, the only one, other than you, who said the bells stop ringing at 11pm is the host whose home we have booked. All other properties have confirmed "the bells ring every hour, even in the night, it is a custom of CT." I bought Rick Steves pocket guide to CT and there is nothing even mentioned about church bells.
I trust you, but when was the last time you visited Monterossa?

Different answers may depend on people living close to different churches in the same village. Or different villages doing different things.
