My Way Italy Hotel Refunds

Has anyone requested a refund from hotel stays that were prior to and after your Rick Steve’s Italy Tour? My sister and I had 1 night stay in Venice prior to starting our tour in Italy and 2 nights after our tour ended in Rome. The tour was for April 23rd departure and we never heard from the hotels about cancelations or hotel closures. We are considering asking for a refund; any guidance or experiences had by fellow travelers is appreciated. Thank you and here’s to future travel with Rick Steve’s!

Am I understanding correctly that you have not yet contacted either hotel? Did you notify them when you learned the trip was cancelled, you would not be coming?

If you had not contacted them prior to your scheduled arrival, it will be interesting to read what happens.

Good luck.

PS Refundable or non-refundable reservations?

You didn’t cancel your bookings before the dates of the reservation?

I am afraid that the responsibility for cancelling these reservations was yours. If you did not contact the hotel prior to the date of your reservation, then you were probably considered a “no show” and were charged appropriately.

Even so, perhaps if you have contacted them right away, you might have negotiated some sort of refund. Three months later, I would just consider this an expensive lesson and move on. If it is any consolation, I think all of us have had at least one “learn the hard way” travel lesson. I am sorry this was yours.

Cathleen, I'll agree with the others that it wasn't the responsibility of the hotel(s) to contact you, and that it's very late in the game to expect refunds. If you and your sister intend to try and do the My Tour when travel is less risky, you could see if they'd offer you vouchers for a future stay? According to reports, a fair number of hotels have been able to do that, and you likely stand a better chance of them issuing those versus monetary refunds. Good luck!

Thank you everyone! I’m sure you are all correct. 😁 I can blame my sister for not cancelling 😝! She felt bad for the hotel since they are small family owned properties. Our donation to Italy
and good karma for our visit...hopefully soon!

Don't feel bad... I go through phases where I have no inertia and don't want to do anything. It's just less painful for me to NOT deal with hassles of contacting hotels and asking for refund...

That's one of the reasons, people will allow Netflix to continuously charge monthly fee, without utilizing their streaming services.. Apparently there are many people like this, that Netflix changed their policy... Anybody on monthly subscription plan and have not used their service for 2 years will automatically get their membership cancelled.
