My Venice, with kids, intinerary

Thursday: Land at 915am from NH. Hope to get to hotel by noon. Apartment rental thru Charming Venice Apartments. We go to Hotel Da Bruno to get our key and escorted to the apartment. Take a Vaporetti Ride down the canal (we will buy 72 hour passes). Get off at Accademia. Walk down to Osteria Al Squero, grab a bite, and watch the gondola repair area. Then just wander, take vaporetti rides, try to fight fatigue.

Friday: 1000 Row Venice. Should finish around 1130. Grab some lunch nearby. Then I want to reserve a tour with Macaco Tours. The one I want starts at Santa Maria Formosa at either 1300 or 1600. I think 1300 will be pushing it on time.

Saturday: 0955 Secret Itineraries Tour, St. Marks, Campanile, 1400 Clock Tower tour.

Sunday: depart on 1000 train for Rome.

Spare time will be spent just walking around, maybe visiting Correr Museum, maybe a trip over to San Giorgio Maggiore.

Thoughts? A cruise ship will be in port on Saturday. Should I swap my Friday and Saturday plans due to that?

Your itinerary is very specific and while I certainly think it is doable, it will take some coordination. Do you have good directions to the hotel? It will be a bit of an adventure to find it after being jet lagged. Vaporetti are the way to move down the Grand Canal, and you should be able to pick up one at Rialto, travel to Accademia, and then exit for your trip to Osteria Al Squero. Why did you pick that place? It looks like a great restaurant, but is pretty far from your hotel. You might consider whether a tour of the Doges' Palace would be fun for your children. Swords, dungeons, bigass meeting rooms, What's not to like?

I would think that there is a cruise ship of some kind is in Venice every day. The crowds are always huge, ships or not.

The apartment owner sent wonderful directions with photos and everything!

I chose the Osteria because it overlooks the gondola maintenance area. I thought the boys would enjoy having a snack while watching them work from a distance.

After the Secret Itineraries Tour (of Doges), I believe we can stay and view more of Doge's if the kids are interested.

If that is the same Hotel da Bruno I know, it is right up the street (Salizada San Lio) from the apartment where we spent a month a few years ago. I would assume your apartment is nearby. We thought that location was perfect for walking everywhere.

I will add that you should be close to Gelateria SuSo, ranked one of the best in Venice. My husband stopped by every day for their dark chocolate gelato.

Bar Mulino, just up the street toward Campo San Lio, was his favorite place for morning coffee and a croissant. Much frequented by locals; standing only

Guess I know where I'm getting fat on vacation. :)

My youngest is allergic to hazelnuts, so I plan to have that written in Italian on a piece of paper to show everywhere we go. They seem to use hazelnuts a lot more over there than we do here in the US.

Thank you JustTravel. I also love that both of those places are open all day. My kids eat dinner by 530pm every night. I've been searching for places that will allow them to stay on their usual schedule and not have dinner at 8pm. I try and have them in bed by 9 so everyone is happy the next day. Beauty sleep, you know.
