My Taxi App

We will be in Rome with our family of five. Due to the fact it'll be 7 Euros every time we hop on a Metro, it probably makes more sense to take a taxi to (some) places. We are staying near the Spanish Steps and the furthest we will likely go is the Vatican and Testaccio neighborhoods. Will walk mostly everywhere else. Has anyone used the My Taxi app? RS mentions it in his book. Wondering if it's just as easy to hail one.

NP,

I'd probably just find the nearest Taxi stand and take the first one in line. Your hotel staff can let you know where the Taxi's are located in that neighbourhood. It seems like an easier solution than using an App.

If you plan on doing a lot of travel within Rome, you could also consider one of the transit passes - https://www.rome.net/rome-transport-tickets . DON'T forget to validate prior to boarding the first time you use it.

Probably just IMHO but I don't think it's a far enough walk from the Steps to the Vatican and back to warrant a cab unless you have mobility challenges. You'd probably only want transport to Testaccio and back.

Yes I have used it. It is very easy to use & has the option to pay & tip right on the app. You can buy a 24 or 48 bus/metro pass as well.

Thanks - it's not that far - probably just over 30 minutes walking, but was thinking of a cab on the way there bc we have to get there by 8:30am (we have teens). We are staying at an apartment, but I am sure we can find taxi stands...or just use the app. Assume it works like Uber with license plate identifiers, etc.

I used the MyTaxi app for the first time tonight in Dortmund, Germany. I checked my Uber app to see if there were drivers here; the app said Uber is not offering service here. So... I download MyTaxi because I was going to be out and about tonight. Long story short: I needed a taxi in a fairly desolate place that had no taxis anywhere nearby. The app worked great. The app looks and feels a lot like the Uber app.

In Rome, there is a taxi stand somewhere in the area of the Spanish Steps, or at least there was in 2015. We planned to use the Spagna metro station by the Steps for a late night metro ride back to our hotel, but it was closed that night due to some overnight maintenance. We found a taxi stand nearby and took a taxi to the hotel.

MyTaxi does let you schedule taxis, too. I haven't used that function, so I don't know how reliable it is. Maybe someone else on the forum has tried it.

I have scheduled a taxi, I believe it is up to 1 1/2 hours ahead. I order & got a notification that it was cancelled. Texted my air bnb host & she said to order another one & offered to call. I opted for her to call as I was trying to make a train. Lo & behold, my taxi automatically reordered & it still came on time. So when you don't see an official taxi stand, mytaxi is definitely the way to go. Never use uber in Rome.

Only for Android right now.

My Taxi app users that have used it in Rome - do you get an official white taxi when you book?
