My second week of Italy

Well....can't convey how much I love this place so far. Setelling in to the work routine, still in a hotel but should have a villa in the next couple of weeks. Haven't seen a whole lot yet except for Cesena (and the Americano/Italiano army base in Vicenza) but it is a nice little town. I would say it's worth a visit if you're in the area. gonna try to visit Cervia and Rimini this weekend.

Things I've learned: There is a variety of bathrooms.....regular ol American style, then the same but without seats, the ol squat over the hole in the floor, pull chain, push button and pull the knob flushers. Haven't seen a regular handle yet. Kinda gross I know but thought I'd mention it anyways!
Napoli pizza is good in it's own way. We've tried several and got pattate fritta on top of our last one. I think we prefer the northern style more though.
Don't be on an Italian air force base when they play war games....that really sucked!!
Beef definetly has a different taste here.....more gamey than back home.
So far the only red wine I really have liked was Sicilian.
Italians do really take their time at meals.
The white sneaker thing....maybe for the older crowd it doesn't happen but have seen alot of the younger crowd wearing 'em.

Can't recommend this enough but for anyone coming over..... definetly learn some Italian! The locals love to see you try and will be alot more helpful. The little bit I know has gotten me alot so far.

Hi Ron,
Keep your updates coming! It's fun to learn more about what it's like to live in Italy full-time!

We're finally having springtime in Atlanta!
Ciao!

Ron, thank you for your tips! My teenage daughters will be happy to know that their Nikes will not be out of place.

Ron, I love your posts-keep them up. This one on toilets really brought back memories for me. When I took the 14 Day Village Tour in 2008 we had a great group and quickly became good friends-all the wonderful wine may have speeded up the process. Anyway, one of our favorite past times became reporting on the different toilets we encountered. Our best one was a modern restaurant in Padua where they had a fancy porcelain base with special places for your feet over the 'hole in the floor.'

Ciao All,

Thanks for all the responses and sorry for the bad spelling there....that's what you get with too much vino!

I've found a couple of places with the hole and footpads.....definetly different.

Glad to hear that springtime is hitting Atlanta. Gonna miss seeing the dogwoods bloom in my backyard. The peach orchards here are really beautiful though and should make up for that!
