My heart and prayers go out to the people touch by this disaster.

I feel like I know this area even though I have never been there. Our vacation is in April and Vernazza was to be our destination. I have looked at the village so much while trying to decide where to stay and now the pictures I see are heart breaking. We had put off last year this vacation, oh how I wish we hadn't. The months I have put into this vacation is lost as we have decided to change directions and do CT and Tuscany and maybe Milan will be next years vacation and this year we will visit Rome. Sorrento , Capri and whatever else I can find in my travel books. I have spend no time looking for this areas so I am asking if anyone can give me some ideas of places to stay in Sorrento and Rome. I think we will use this cities as bases for our 2 week vacation. We will see Vernazza, even after it is fixed and nice I am sure it won't be the same. I look forward to hearing from some of you experienced

Barbara, in addition to staying in the other 3 CT towns that weren't impacted by the floods, you could also consider staying in Camogli or Portovenere. I plan to visit those towns as day trips when in the CT next year but I wouldn't hesitate to stay in either of these places and then day trip into the other CT towns.

I would still go... there are other towns and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and the people in the other villages will not have changed.... You already have regrets over not seeing it earlier, so who knows what can happen in the future. My theory is to not put off travel, just go for it and enjoy what you can. I think you will still love it and you can use your imagination to think of Vernazza as it was, and also what it can be in the future. I have complete confidence that the Italians will be able to restore that beautiful village.
