My Guest Roma Bed and Breakfast

Has anyone stayed at MyGuest Roma? The place has great reviews and seems much less expensive than other B&Bs of similar standard. As I have been dreaming of going to Rome for so long, I just wanted to double-check...

It probably is less because it is a long ways from most everything. You will have to use the bus or metro everyday to get anywhere. I am sure it is fine but just be aware of where it is and relation to most of the sites you would be interested in visiting.

There is no such thing as being close to everything in Rome! What is usually considered to be the city's main attractions (not to mention less touristic places) is pretty much scattered throughout the city. The Borghese Gallery is far away from the Vatican Museums. It is an hour walk from the Colosseum to People's Square or to Raffaello's Villa! What you have to look for in Rome is a "well- connected" location, from where many buses (possibly express lines) can bring you everywhere. And not just that: some neighborhoods often considered a good choice, such as Transtevere or Colisseum, can be pretty unpleasant at night. In the Vatican area everything shuts down after 5pm. The My Guest Roma is in authentic neighborhood, where pizza tastes like a true Italian pizza, and you will not feel like you are in a Disneyland. By all means, go for it!

MyGuest Roma is located off Via Nomentana, in the northern part of the city - North of Termini. This is a working class neighborhood and there are NO tourist sites nearby (except perhaps St. Agnes Catacombs, off Nomentana). I rode my motorino often on this route to the Porta di Roma Mall. You will be immersed in Roma, and not tourist Roma. There are no metro stations in this area so all your travel will be by bus (or taxi). Nomentana is a busy road with multiple bus options to get you downtown. You may find yourself heading often to Roma Termini for bus or metro connections if you stay here. There are fewer English speaking "locations" in this part of town... so yes, it is quite realistic and Italian. It's not far in terms of miles, but perhaps 20+minutes to downtown by bus, then bus/metro to more central parts of Rome - depending on traffic.

I have made a reservation with Stephano after hearing all the good reviews. I have had many conversations with him via email, he has been very responsive to all my questions and concerns. I am looking forward to staying there this May, and the adventures of public transportation!

I wanted to write a review for the My Guest Roma and bumped onto this forum. I think Tracy has made a good choice and I strongly recommend Gosia to book there. I stayed there last week and was absolutely satisfied with the place and location. The room was neat, large, and filled with light. And as far as location, it was ideally connected. We would pick up the first among the manty buses (60, 36,..) running on the Nomentana and be downtown in 15 minutes. We reached the Vatican and the banks of the Tiber by metro in about half an hour. A direct bus to the Termini takes just a few minutes. We often had dinner in the neighbourhood and sometimes we stayed downtown and returned late. We were given a map and all the necessary hints by the owner. I really found it optimal, especially given that the rooms were 50% of what they cost in the direct centre.

Odd grammar and syntax for a person from Cambridge.

And the fact that the thread had been dormant for nine days AND the fact that it's the only posting by "hellen". Hmmm. Sounds like it may be "grain of salt" time. :-) (Hellen, if you're real, please forgive our speculation. It's just that some businesses have been known to create phantom posters to promote themselves or attack their competition.)

re Ed and Nigel Yes, I am real. Yes, I live in Cambridge. No, I am not a native English speaker. Does it mean I am not allowed to post in this forum? What syntax error I did? Sarah Palin also makes spelling mistakes :)

Curious, very curious.... bad cop/good cop scenario comes to mind, or the bidding shills at fine art auctions? maybe I'm just a suspicious person...

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at My Guest Roma, Rome. The host made every possible effort to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. He spent considerable time finding out what we would like and telling us how to find it in Rome, how to get around, find the best coffee, the best gelato, etc. The B&B is exceptionally clean and the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are simple but roomy. The breakfast was delicious and the breakfast room is pleasant. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The B&B is out of the central city in a nice neighborhood and a good bus route and the Metro are easily accessed. It was a good value. You won't be disappointed if you stay there. There is a reason for the great reviews. Stefano Milano is an exceptional host.

Her ref. to the former gov of Alaska lends itself to an entirely different thread.

Very curious indeed. All the positive posts are suspicious. Too many first time posters digging up an old posting. Josh's first post is seven days after the subject has been buried. Seven days later hellen digs up an old post to praise it. Pam's first posting is to find a two month old thread which is now buried several pages deep in the To the Boot section. She had to be directed to it as I doubt if she just stumbled across it. An unusual pattern of praise for an out of the way B&B. Should probably be a little careful with My Guest Roma.

I agree that so many first time poster finding and giving such high praise of this out of the way, little known B&B is very suspicious. I would proceed with extreme caution. Donna
