We really would like to do a winery tour on a day trip to Tuscany from Florence. We do not want to rent a car and all the group tours I am finding are super expensive because they are such small group tours. Any suggestions of a larger tour?
Or, I really like Castle of Verrazzano, which is somewhat near Greve and only 18 Euro for a tour. But, I can't figure out how to get there! We could take a train/bus combo and get to Greve, but then it is still to far out to walk. Any suggestions??
Just rent a car with a GPS.
Driving in Tuscany is relaxing, and with the GPS you have even less stress.
With the car you also free to stop at any spot that looks interesting to you.
Unless I am only in Venice or Rome, Id have a car in Italy.
Driving in Tuscany is not like driving in the cities. I'd rent a car for the flexibility. We drove in Florence, Siena, and Rome with no problem. I would not recommend driving in Naples.
My concern with renting a car is primarily cost. Might as well do an expensive tour group for the money as we will only have one day for Tuscany.
Amanda, I'm doing an all-day Chianti wine region tour with Tuscany Bike Tours when I'm in Florence next summer for €60. Here's their website: http://www.tuscany-biketours.com/.
