My experience crossing from France to Italy by coach today

I just crossed the border via Courmayeur around Mont Blanc on my way to Florence. Before that I had to show proof of a negative test to board the bus which I got while in Chamonix in order to attend a live music festival held on Planpraz there the day before. The Italian border police entered the bus and collected all of the passports and EU resident cards and returned them about 20 minutes later.

Wow....just like the "old" days when you crossed a border! Thanks for the update.

Yep my exact thought; the same 20 years ago when I crossed between Spain and France. I am now on a full Italotren pulling into Florence in about ten minutes

It took just a microscopic organism to kill the Schengen treaty, whose achievement was such a reason of pride for European politicians.

This is the equivalent of having border controls between California and Nevada, or between Illinois and Wisconsin.

After this pandemic they should rename it: European Disunion.

How about "The European Countries Doing What We Can To Stay Safe"?

Just checked into my hotel here in Florence. It is very swift business like just like in Chamonix where they do more self check in breakfast to go to limit the amount of interpersonal contact.
On the other hand the hotel owner in Wengen Switzerland was maskless and personable.

I had a single room balcony view of the Eiger at the Hotel Bellevue. I recommend it. It is very quiet clean.
