there are 9 of us traveling to rome in august staying in rome one day than visiting family near venice and than on to a cruise from venice should we rent a van in rome and drive i heard the roads are winning and mountainous and the van is running over $10000 for the 4 days or should we just catch a taxi to hotel and than take the bus or train thereafter and what hotel do you recommend in rome and than in venice thank you

What is your question? The van is how much? Ten thousand dollars??? One thousand dollars? Take the train to Venice. You'd be CRAZY to drive in Rome. Read RS Italy book for hotel recs.

Benita, As the others have pointed out so well, using a Van is definitely NOT a good idea. Using the Freccia high speed trains (which run at up to 300 kmH), you can make the journey from Rome to Venice in about 3 hours. You can buy tickets for the trip when you arrive in Rome, either from a staffed ticket office or one of the automated Kiosks. Note that reservations are compulsory (these will be included with your ticket), and are specific to a particular train and departure time. Therefore you MUST use the train specified on the ticket, or face hefty fines. With reserved tickets, each ticket will be assigned a Car No. (Carrozza) and a Seat No. (Posti). Hopefully you'll be able to get seats all together. It is also possible to save money by pre-purchasing tickets for the premium trains. However, that will lock you into a specific train so if you miss that one for any reason, the tickets are worthless and you'll have to buy more at full price. You can also buy your tickets from the Biglietteria and speak to a person who can help find at least some seats together. The trip is about 3.7 hours. What is your budget for hotels? Try booking.com to get an idea of what's available.

What if I flew into Venice and rented a van to see my family in San benedetto del Toronto is that trip driving any better a din venicewhat are my options from the airport to get to the cruise deportation ?
