Hi,
What is the ‘best’ way to get to/from Lake Como from Milan? We prefer not to drive if possible.
Any any suggestions on the best way to see Milan and Lake Como upon landing at MPX? Which would be ideal to do first? Milan is east of airport and Como is north.
Grateful and appreciate your experiences in seeing both and transportation reccomendations to both.
Take the https://www.malpensaexpress.it/en/ train from the airport to Milan Centrale train station
At Milan Centrale there is a counter where you can store your luggage and then you can go see the city.
Or just stay in Milan a couple of nights. Then take the train from Milan Centrale to Lake Como.
Which town are you staying at on Lake Como? The train stops at Varenna.

Are you day tripping to Lake Como or staying up there for a couple days? We use the Bellagio Taxi company if we don't want to drive. We have used them to take us all the way to Stresa from Milan Centrale train station but if you are day tripping then I'd recommend a tour for the day
We just returned from Bellagio - gorgeous.
Option 1: train from Airport to Milan Central, then train to Varenna, then quick ferry right to Bellagio.
Option 2: train to Como (have to change trains east of airport) then ferry to Bellagio. There are fast ferries and slower ferries. I believe the fast ones can sell out?
Option 3: taxi. We planned to do option 2 but flight delays got us to airport late night. We contacted Bellagio taxi and they were able to take us. Well worth the money after long flights.
On return, we took quick ferry to Varenna (they leave pretty frequently) then train to Milan Central. The day we travelled they had just reopened this route after landslide. Went pretty fast.

I like taking the train from Milan to Como city and the slow ferry up to Bellagio. The views are beautiful and the journey becomes the point, rather than just making a transfer.

I'm just curious- was the regional train from Varenna to Milan packed and SRO?
Safe. Travels!
We rode it on a Sunday and it was pretty full. Not SRO. It close.
