I am flying from CDG to MXP with Florence as my destination. I know I need to take a train from MXP to Milan Centrale and another train to Florence (Santa Maria Novella I believe).
My Easyjet flight arrives at MXP at 10:40 am so I am trying to figure out what time to buy a ticket for the Milan Centrale to Florence segment. Would a 13:00 or so train be a safe choice or should I give myself more time? I am traveling with carryon luggage, no checked bags.
I would just buy a ticket MXP - Florence (using the Trenitalia app) for the next departure the moment I got out of immigration.
Do i go through immigration if i am coming from Paris? I am a US passport holder but I’ll be in Paris for a few days first.
Do i go through immigration if i am coming from Paris?
No
Why not fly to Florence direct? Do not overlook that your time has value.
Vueling flies ORLY to Florence
If you can’t change just wait til you land at MXP and purchase train tickets then-use the Trenitalia app or buy at MXP station
My daughter is spending the year as an au pair for a family in Paris and gets 2 weeks off every 6 weeks. She just started last month so this is an impromtu trip. I’ll be spending a couple days in Paris with her on each end of the Florence trip. We wanted spend about 5 nights somewhere else in Europe while i was there and because i was buying tickets less than a month out this was the best deal i could find. EasyJet was $400 rt for the two of us. I originally thought we’d go from Milan to Lake Como which didn’t work out but i already bought the tickets so i found a great place on Via dei Servi right near the Duomo so Florence it is.
The train will add a couple hours each way but i love European and Asian train travel.
I wouldn’t buy discounted train tickets in advance. They have restrictions and you don’t get a refund if the train is missed due to a flight delay.
Two hours are not enough to get you from MXP to FLR. It is almost one hour from MXP to Milano Central station or to the Milano Porta Garibaldi station. Then almost two hours to Florence from there. So 3.5 hours is the fastest you can get to Florence from the Malpensa train station.
Just flew out of MXP yesterday after taking the train from Milano Centrale to the airport.
The other’s advice above is solid —MXP airport is massive with huge numbers of passengers walking lengthy distances to complete the airport gauntlet before finally getting to the MXP train station for the 55-minute train ride to Milano Centrale.
There simply is no way to guesstimate what time you’ll be able to catch your train from MXP into Milan. Ditto for the train from Milano Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella.
Labor strikes impacting Italian rail and airline transportation are a fact of life. There’s no way to have any idea how strikes might affect travel more than ten days to a few weeks in advance.
.
Wait until you’re in Milan to buy your train tickets.
