My wife, my elderly mother-in-law, and I are traveling in about a week to NW Italy and SE France, flying in and out of Milan. We have rented a car through AutoEurope using Hertz. I'm wondering if anyone knows the logistics of obtaining the car rental from Hertz at MXP, Terminal 1? Is there a central car rental terminal like may other airports have these days? If so, is transport via bus or train from Terminal 1? Mostly asking since we are traveling with my MIL. She is 85 years old and a trooper for sure. Just trying to figure out the least tiring way to get her to the car. My MIL is mobile and can walk a fair distance. But, we've asked for wheelchair assistance through the terminal. Not really sure how long that assistance will last though. I'm trying not to exhaust her after an 8 hour flight. Thanks in advance.
The Hertz desk is in the airport on the arrivals level. The cars are in the parking garage across the access road in the same building the train station is located. Why don't you have your wife and mom wait inside on the arrival level while you go and get the car, then exit the parking garage and circle around to the arrival level and pick them up.
We traveled to Milan with my elderly father-in-law a couple years back, on Delta
We had requested airport assistance in the form of a wheelchair. The attendant got us through immigration and baggage quickly, took us to the rental car agency, and to the parking garage door. It was so easy.
.you may want to check with your airlines to see what help they can provide
hey hey nurses
how fun to go exploring.
make sure any and all drivers have their IDP (translation of your driving license) from AAA. about $25 and receive same day. rental car staff may ask, border patrol may ask, and random stop will ask. be prepared with a smile
aloha

Just be careful with this. My Son flies to Milan for work, and did this to pick-up or drop off workmates. Resulted in a 250 euro ticket. Much of the pick-up and drop-off area is a ZTL reserved for taxis and buses and those with permits.
Thanks to all for the advice. IDP has been in hand for a couple weeks. But thanks for the reminder. The Italian powers that be seem to love their ZTLs. My wife and I have been looking at line at all the traffic signs so we can spot the ZTLs.
Sounds like the rental cars are not too far from the car rental desk at the terminal. I'll leave it up to mom. She's a pretty good judge at how she can do.
