MXP airport: arrive on Easyjet from Naples, leave to US via Delta...

We are flying from Naples to Milan to connect to our home flight back to the US. We have 2:15 hours between flights. We arrive on Easyjet, which the MXP web page says is in Terminal 2. Delta international departures appear to be in Terminal 1.

Question 1 - Will we have to go out through T2 security and back in through T1 security? Our timing will be fairly tight and we hope to be able to only have our carry-on bag so we can zip over to Delta without too much hassle.

Question 2 - with Easyjet, what is "dedicated bag drop?" As in, if we have a "hold" bag, will we have to wait for it to be delivered to the baggage area or will we be able to pick it up plane-side like some of the low-cost US carriers do?

Thanks for any help!

lcarter,

Regarding your questions.....

  1. When you arrive at MXP Terminal 2, you can exit to the street as soon as you disembark and collect your luggage (if you checked any). You'll need to take the Malpensa Shutle or other Bus over to Terminal 1 to connect with your Delta flight. I can't remember the details, but there should be frequent departures and the trip only takes about 10-15 minutes. Given the short distance and the fact that you have time constraints, I'd probably use a Taxi.
  2. EasyJet no longer offers check-in at most airports so you'll have to print your boarding passes at home prior to your trip. As I recall, you can print those up to a month prior to the flights. As there's no check-in staff, those with checked luggage use a "dedicated bag drop" on departing flights. If you'll have any checked luggage items ("hold bags"), then you will have to wait for them to be delivered to the carousel. I've found that the luggage arrives fairly quickly after the flight arrives, but of course no guarantees.

One other important point to mention is that EasyJet only allows ONE carry-on item per passenger of the approved size (and they usually enforce that). There are no weight restrictions (within reason) but passengers must be able to lift their own items to the overhead bins. They're usually quite strict about that, and passengers with more than one carry-on will be forced to gate check one at a fairly steep additional charge.

You might want to delete your duplicate Thread on this topic, so that you keep all replies in the same place.

Thanks, Ken, that helps a bunch! We'll have to be efficient and make sure our luggage meets the carry-on standards.

I can vouch that easyjet are very strict enforcing checked baggage weight and cabin baggage restrictions.

You have two separate tickets, right?
Ken gave you the correct info. You will have to collect all of your luggage from the Easyjet flight and head to T1 for your Delta flight.
Two tickets & two airlines, in this instance, equals a change in terminals and two separate check-in and security procedures.
Make sure that you pack according to the standards of the airline with the most restrictive conditions (Easyjet in this case) - both for the number of items allowed for carry-on and the weight limit on the hold bag.

This will be tight. Since you're flying on separate tickets, you will definitely have to check in for Delta separately (as though you had arrived at MXP airport by train or taxi). So after arriving at T2, you will have to get to T1, then go through check-in, security, and passport control before you can get to your Delta gate.

I haven't been to MXP in a few years, but I remember the check-in area for US-bound flights was in a separate area from the other check-in desks, and a bit hidden. If you don't find it right away, ask (other people told me they had been looking for an hour; I get how they were lost, but I don't understand why they didn't ask for help sooner).

I've had extensive questioning at MXP before departures to the US; I hope you don't get delayed by this. Have your hotel receipts handy (I've been asked at least twice to show a receipt - I guess to prove that I didn't stay with terrorist friends).

In addition to checking in for Easyjet online before you get to the airport, check in for your Delta flight online. Even if you can't print the boarding pass, it will prevent you from being a "no show" if you're running a bit late.

I don't mean to be negative, but I do want you to be prepared. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly. Having only carry-on will speed the process considerably, since you won't have to wait for your checked luggage on arrival, or recheck it before your departure.

Thanks! We are considering staying in Milan the night before or seeing if we can get a slightly later flight.
