Must See Sites in Naples

Hi everyone,

We are excited to be starting off a Southern Italy trip this June with a day in Naples. We are planning to spend our morning in the archeological museum, seeing the veiled statue of Christ, and checking out the Santa Chiara cloisters. Our plan is to spend the rest of the day walking around and exploring the historic center, the Spanish quarter, including the sites around Piazza del Plebiscito, Petriao, and ending up in Chiaia for dinner. We are prepared and in shape for an ambitious afternoon of walking and we are hoping to make the most of the long summer evening. My question is - what sites in these areas, in your opinion, are must sees?

Thank you!

If you like art, particularly Caravaggio, then 'The Seven Works of Mercy' at Pio Monte della Misericordia, 'The Flagellation of Christ' at the Capodimonte Museum, and 'The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula' at Palazzo Zevallos are must-sees.

For a spectacular panorama of the city, Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri take one of the funiculars up Vomero Hill and it’s a short walk to the Castelo. For an excellent selection of Neapolitan cuisine, near Piazza del Plebescito, stop in at Osteria Il Gobetto, Vico Sergente Maggiore, 8.

Thanks for the comments thusfar.

@Christine H - we'll be there for 2 nights and plan to ferry to Sorrento sometime the next morning.
@alomaker, thanks for listing out the Carvagios and will see if we can pop in to see them.
@Philip - I like that idea.
