Hi we will only have 1 day in Venice which I know is not enough time but our reality unfortunately. Anything we should not miss? My husband and I have been but this will be my teenage kids first visit. Anything I should buy any advance? Any input is appreciated. We will be there early April. Thanks
From what time til what time?
We love Rialto Market in the am
Ride the vaporetto down the Grand Canal during the day AND at night if possible
Check out Piazza San Marco
View Bridge of Sighs from back of Doges Palace
Visit Acqua Alta bookstore
Just wander, get lost in the back canals
Maybe take elevator to top of SM campanile, reserve ahead— the views from there are fantastic
We really enjoyed the Secret Itineraries tour of Doges but don’t know if you have time
do you have one day and one night or only a day trip?

I'd want to be sure I allowed plenty of time for just wandering around the back alleys and little canals. I would not want to spend all my time in the tourist scrum around Piazza San Marco.
We will arrive by train at 9:55am and depart at 4:05pm so only about 6 hours.
Here is a video put out by the Roman Guy that shows a visit to Venice just like you describe

From the train station catch the boat ride (Vaporetto) down the Grand Canal to St. Mark's Square. Start wandering around and try to visit both the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Then wander around some more for as long as you have time. Don't forget to eat, drink, shop and have fun!
