Museum reservations

Are we correct in interpreting that, if we use a Romapass, we must just make RESERVATIONS to the various museums, and not pay for them online. IS there a long line to pay once you arrive. Which are the MUST SEE romapass museums? Where is the best place to make our reservations before we leave? Many thanks.

Use the Roma pass for the Colosseum since you get in for free, no line when you use the pass, scan and you are in. Watch out for the people selling tours out front, they are worthless. Bring RIck's book or poscast you also get into the forum for free with entry (same day) to the Colosseum. BRING Rick's book/podcast for the forum, we were lost without it.

Use pass for Borgeshese Gallery as well, just call and tell them you need a reservation with Roma pass, they will set you up. Get there 30 minutes before hand to claim tickets, there will be a line but nothing you can do to avoid it, unless you are first in line.

lastly, enjoy Rome, we just got back and it was a great trip.

Jason gave you good advice. The Roma Pass gives you free admission to 2 museums from a select list. Most people choose the Colosseum (also includes the Forum & Palentine Hill) & the Borghese Gallery. The Capitoline Museum or the National Museum of Rome are also good choices, but it depends on your interests and the amount of time you have. The Vatican is not included on the Roma Pass.

For most sites, the Pass functions as a pre-purchased ticket. With the Colosseum, you bypass the long ticket line by staying to the LEFT and heading straight to the metal detectors. The Borghese does require reservations which are easy to make by phone or even easier to ask your hotel to do it. You CANNOT reserve the Borghese online and use a Roma Pass.

Just to clarify. You can make the Borghese reservations before you buy the pass.

The borghese gallery is the only site you MUST make a reservation for whether you are using the romapass or not. You don't need to have the pass in hand to make the reservation, you only need it when you get to the gallery. At 30 minutes prior to your entry time the museum starts giving away slot for no-shows so get there early and check-in. You must also check all of your bags so get there early as the bag check line can get very long and move very slowly. If you get to the gallery an hour before your time slot you can get your tickets, check your bags and walk around the park until your entry time. You can also visit the book store or have a coffee and snack in the cafe. You'll also have time to rent an audio guide (do this before you check your bags if your I.D. is in the bag) if you want one. They are very good.
