Museum and train tickets for Florence

Hello Travelers,
My husband and I are trying to gather information to make good decisions and make the most of our time in Florence. How far in advance to arrange tickets for sights and museums. Also wondering about getting train tickets ahead. We are going second week of November. We do want to visit Assisi and Siena. We are there 8 days. Thank you in advance.

Hello Mark and Val,

If the train tickets you are purchasing are regionale tickets - versus fast train tickets with seat assignments - there is no reason to buy them before you need them. There is only one class, they don't sell out and the price doesn't change so don't sweat that.

Get the Trenitalia app and you can check schedules, track trains and buy tickets from your phone.

Many museum passes - like the Duomo plus additional sites - are good for 3 days from first use which makes planning easier. Once you have your dates set I'd purchase them when they become available. Places like the Uffizi and the Galleria dell'Accademia (David) require timed entry tickets so be sure you're ready to plan a date and time when you book.
You can book the PassePartout ticket which gives you five days to also go visit the Pitti Palace and Boboli gardens if you're interested in doing that which helps with giving you 5 days to do it but you need to do the Uffizi first.

Generally sites open up blocks of tickets in months in advance 'chunks' so check the sites and keep in mind when you might to start keeping an eye on those sites. I doesn't sound like you're locked into a single day/time so getting tickets that work for you shouldn't be an issue.

Check which days things are closed - many are closed Mondays - and see if that works for your day trips.

Have a great trip!

You can take the train to Siena, but the bus is faster and more convenient.
