Murano/Burano

Hi everyone-I'm taking the BOE 14 day trip later this year and was wondering is it possible to visit both Murano and Burano while we are in Venice? We have an afternoon free and I would like to go to both islands while there. Hoe long would I need to set aside to visit each island?

We visited both on the same afternoon earlier this year. I think it took about an hour or slightly more to get to Burano. Probably two hours or less to walk around the island and see the bright houses. Then we took the vaporetto to Murano which was about half hour to 45 minutes. Since we were not interested in visiting the glass blowing factories, it took about an hour to walk around and visit a couple of churches. Then it's another half hour back to Venice. The times are from memory and could be off a bit. Check the vaporetto schedule so you can make the most of your time. Each vaporetto ride is 6.5euro but you can buy a pass in advance at this site http://www.veniceconnected.com/ecommerce/carrello.php?lang=2&g=20110816. A 12 hour tourist travel card is 16euro which would pay for itself in three rides and convenience of not stopping to buy individual tickets.

Hi! We did the vaporetto tour of Murano and Burano a few years ago and plan to go back next year and add Torchello. This would be a full day. Here's an article on visiting 2 islands for 1/2 day: http://www.travelsignposts.com/Italy/destinations/venice-lagoon-murano-and-burano Also check out the Viator tour link which is by motor boat and costs about $30pp. Don't miss the Murano glass blowing. It's facinating. BTW The Museo Italo Americano at Ft. Mason in Francisco now has an exhibit of three Veneto artists (painter, photographer and glass artist): August 12-November 6. One of these, Gianluca Vidal, is a glass blower from Murano. I plan to see it this Friday! http://museoitaloamericano.org/category/exhibits-collections/current-exhibition/

I loved visiting the Islands and gave it nearly a day. Murano we did pretty quick but Burano was beautiful and the food ( oh my mouth is still watering!) beautiful little Island.Had a lovely talk with a dear elderly lady making lace. And then to our surprise there was two weddings in Torchello. Great atmosphire. We sat and had some wine and it was really wonderful. Enjoy...I loved it
