Munich to Verona train info / where to stay?

We are flying in/out of Munich in March and have decided we would love to visit Verona for 2-3 days.

We will not have a car and are looking to travel by train. Should we purchase tickets through Rail Europe or Deutsche Bahn? If we know our exact days, should we purchase round trip tickets?

It looks like the RT tickets are around $210 for 2 people. I'm confused by the different types of tickets offered. Should we get first class? Can you book a seat with a second class ticket?

Also - any suggestions on hotels that are close in walking distance to restaurants, sights etc.

Thanks!

Use the DBahn website. You can purchase roundtrips. No need to get first class not unless it is priced the same as 2nd class or is on sale or if you want to just splurge. You can reserve a seat in 2nd class for a fee. Just select the cheapest ticket that goes direct that does not require a change. Or you can see and read about what you are getting by looking at the pictures in the different classes on this site https://www.seat61.com/Germany-trains.htm#What%20are%20German%20trains%20like

The more expensive tickets just like the airlines usually have the least amount of restrictions. For example if you miss your train you can get your money back or if you change your mind there is no change fee. The cheaper tickets are usually non-refundable if you miss the train or change your mind.

I've been to Verona but only a day trip; someone may chime in here about where to stay.
