What do you recommend for getting from Munich to Venice? I am considering the train (I believe it's an overnight ride) because I love the train service when traveling in Germany. But then again, flying would be much more convenient. Cheapest airlines?
Unfortunately flight options from Munich to Venice non stop are limited to Lufthansa only, therefore prices may not be that cheap due to lack of competition. Of course you could opt for a flight with one stop and choices would increase dramatically but then the time savings would evaporate as well. There are actually several train options from Munich to Venice, not just a night train. Most require a change (usually in Verona) however there are some with no change required. The journey varies in length. With no changes you can make it in 6h39 min, with one change a little over 7 hours. For example there is a train departing Munich at 11:31 and arriving at Venezia SL at 18:10 (no change). For a full timetable consult the German rail company's website:

Alexandra, My preference on that route is to use a day train, as I always enjoy the trip through the Brenner Pass. In the same situation, I'd use a departure from Munich Hbf at 07:31, arriving Venezia Santa Lucia at 14:40 (time 7H:09M, one change at Verona Porta Nuova, reservations compulsory). There's a similar departure at 09:31, arriving at 16:40, which is also reasonable. The train that Roberto mentioned is a direct train (no changes), so that's even easier. However, arrival at 18:10 is a bit late for me, as I like to get settled in the hotel in a new town sometime in the afternoon. On that particular route, I doubt that you'll find good flight options (although I haven't checked). The flights will either be expensive, or they'll have a layover somewhere which will increase the travel time. Train is by far the easiest option. Happy travels!
